Biblical evidence indicates that ginger persecution took place as early as 32AD. Sources from the same era also indicate that an early version of The Movement was working concurrently to protect and provide dignified burials (and resurrections) to those ginger enough to be affected.
And then there’s the ginger mice. I suppose McEnery had some hair dye left over and didn’t want it to go to waste.

Well then. Just watched The Fresh Prince of Donegal Fighting Prince of Donegal.
Initial impression: Peter McEnery went to the trouble of dying his hair a fetching coppery red but nobody thought to remind him to disguise the fact that he has a TAN. Ginger fail right there.
Also, ehm. Accents.
Ah Red Hugh but yer hair is lookin only GORGEOUS.
This looks eerily like a friend of mine. His hair isn’t quite as picturesque though.
